First Formula 1 of a champion in the making
This superb Shadow DN9 with particularly remarkable decoration raced in the 1979 Formula 1 season driven by Jan Lammers who was participating in his first Formula 1 season.
After winning the title of European Formula 3 Champion in 1978, Jan Lammers entered Formula 1 the following year at just 22 years old. From 1987 to 1990, he actively participated in building the reputation of the Jaguar Silk Cut, successfully developed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing.
His brilliant driving career was crowned with success by his victory at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1988 at the wheel of a Jaguar XJR-9LM which he shared with Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace. In 1990, he finished on the podium in second place, this time driving the Jaguar XJR-12.
He totaled no less than twenty two participations in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
At the end of the Formula 1 season, the Shadow DN9 Chassis no 2B was kept in a collection in Great Britain before being sold in 2009 by Hall & Hall to a French driver, Mr. Michel Baudoin.
In 2012, the latter in turn sold the Shadow to its current owner who commissioned Hall & Hall to undertake a total restoration of the car with a view to entering it in Masters Historic Formula One.
In 2013, the work was completed and the Shadow DN9 returned to the track after many years of absence.
She took part in three races of the Masters Historic Formula One Championship and only three days of driving.
Its 3-liter Cosworth DFV engine has since been fully restored by Wassermann Racing last winter.
The Shadow DN9 is therefore offered for sale with an engine that has been tested and participated in the race in Barcelona last April.
It has an up-to-date Historical Technical Passport and it is sold with a stock of parts.
She is ready to participate in the 2015 season of the Fia Masters Historic Formula One Championship.
