Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 was developed to replace the SLS AMG GT3, aiming to establish itself as the pinnacle of the brand's Customer Racing program. While based on the AMG GT road car's lightweight aluminum architecture, it stood apart due to a strategic technical choice:

• The Powertrain: Moving away from the production model’s twin-turbo unit, Affalterbach’s engineers chose to carry over the proven 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 (M159) from the SLS.

• Strategic Benefits: This bulletproof engine ensured ultimate reliability, manageable operating costs for privateer teams, instantaneous throttle response, and a legendary sound signature.

Deliveries began at the end of 2015, paving the way for a massive competitive onslaught from the 2016 season onward.
